Do you find yourself pushing your wardrobe door shut any time someone comes over? Can you even close your wardrobe door, or do you have too much stuffed in there? If your wardrobes are overflowing, here are some ways to get them cleaned out and organised.
• Go through your clothing. Take out each shirt, pair of trousers, and other outfits and, on each one, ask yourself this question: “Have I worn this within the past six months?” If the answer is no, then that piece of clothing needs to go. Donate it, put it in a car boot sale, or give it to a friend or family member. Just don’t keep it in your wardrobe because it’s just taking up room.
• Your bedroom wardrobe is ideally for your clothing. Sometimes, however, you end up throwing just about everything in there. Take out anything you’re storing in your wardrobe that shouldn’t really be in there.
• If you have a lot of shoes, think about investing in a hanging shoe holder. These devices hand off the back of a door and have many little pockets for shoes or other items. You can also get shoe racks, which are basically small shelves, and install them in the back of your wardrobe.
• If you have a chest of drawers or a dresser that has extra space in it, look at what you can move from the wardrobe to the dresser. You can fold up your t-shirts or sweaters instead of hanging them.
• If you have a spare wardrobe or other storage area, think about moving some of your unused items to it. Halloween costumes, for example, aren’t something you’re going to wear all the time, so you don’t really want them taking up room in your wardrobe.
